FAQs
Common questions about Depression
Answers from licensed counselors and trusted clinical sources.
What is depression?
Depression is a real and treatable mental health condition that affects how a person feels, thinks, and experiences daily life. It goes beyond temporary sadness and can include persistent feelings of emptiness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in things once enjoyed. With the right support, including counseling, community, and faith, healing and renewal are possible.
What are the symptoms of depression?
Common depression symptoms include ongoing sadness, loss of interest or motivation, fatigue, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, and feelings of worthlessness or guilt. Some people feel emotionally numb or disconnected. Depression affects the mind, body, and spirit, which is why compassionate, whole-person care matters.
How do I know if I need help?
If feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or loss of interest have lasted more than two weeks or are interfering with your daily life, relationships, or sense of purpose, it may be time to seek support. Seeking help is a step toward healing, not a sign of weakness. Scripture reminds us, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). Counseling can be one of the ways care and restoration begin.
What does the Bible say about depression?
Scripture takes depression seriously and gives voice to it. The Psalms are full of honest cries from people in deep emotional pain (Psalm 42, Psalm 88, Psalm 130). Elijah, Job, David, and Jeremiah all experienced what we would today recognize as depressive episodes. The Bible does not treat depression as a lack of faith. Instead, it points toward both human community and divine presence as part of healing – and a faith-integrated counselor can help you bring scripture and clinical care together.
