Russ Rainey
Licensed Professional Counselor
About
I accepted Christ as a child and over the years developed a deep curiosity about the truths of the Bible and how they can transform us and our personal relationships. This gave me hope, because I came from a very dysfunctional family and became quite troubled myself. As a college student serving others on mission trips, I began to feel a call to Christian Counseling, and thus began the process of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. After receiving a Ph.D. in Psychology from a theological seminary, I worked for decades in local churches directing Christian counseling, recovery, and support ministries.
These days I have my own Christian Counseling practice and specialize in the all-too-common types of relationship and personal issues that affect so many Christian men and women who deeply desire the permanent life solutions found only in The Father, The Son, The Spirit, and His Word. I also practice as a Board Certified Coach utilizing a proven coaching-based discipleship approach to help those who long to grow deeper spiritually. I often work with pastors and church staff who need care and assistance in ministry-related and personal life issues.
Some of my favorite passages of the Bible are Proverbs 3:5-7, Philippians 4:4-9, Galatians 5:16-26, and Romans 8 (the whole chapter). I believe that Christian Counseling is much more than just quoting scripture to hurting clients. It’s also being “quick to hear and slow to speak” (James 1:19), because anyone wanting help needs to share their experiences, thoughts, feelings, and questions about life in the context of a safe, confidential relationship. I’ve “been there, done that” myself, and benefitted greatly from it. It’s life changing to interact with someone who cares enough to ask questions and help us process things. Jesus, himself, was fond of asking folks, “What do you want me to do for you?” Then, after hearing their concern, he went right to the heart of it – whether it was relational, mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual. We all need what only Jesus offers plus, as someone once said, “God with skin on.” It would be my honor to be that person for you regardless of what life has thrown at you.
