Melissa Gendreau
NCC (National Certified Counselor)
About
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Iowa with over 16 years of clinical experience, a National Certified Counselor, and a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. I work with adolescents (13+), adults, and couples, using a CBT- and DBT-informed approach grounded in a Christian worldview.
My faith has shaped both my life and my work for many years. I believe God meets us in our brokenness and invites us into healing, growth, and greater freedom. Two of my favorite Scriptures are Galatians 6:9 and Philippians 4:8; both remind us to keep doing good even when we grow weary, and to set our minds on what is true, honorable, and worthy of praise.
I incorporate Biblical teachings only as the client desires and is comfortable. For some, this means utilizing Bible passages and their day-to-day applications, along with Scripture-focused homework. For others, it simply means knowing they are working with a counselor whose values are rooted in a Christian foundation, even if faith is never directly discussed. My goal is always to meet each person with respect, clinical excellence, and care for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.
In addition to therapy, I also provide clinical supervision and consultation for mental health professionals.
