Kristal Bolhuis
EMDRIA Certified Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, NCC (National Certified Counselor)
About
I work with teens, adults, parents, veterans, and law enforcement who are tired of pretending, trying to survive, and holding it together alone. Many of my clients have been struggling for years, have been in higher levels of care, or have tried therapy before that just did not go deep enough.
I specialize in trauma, self harm, dissociation, and parent and family support. I have a particular heart for people whose lives have demanded or taken things that most people only hear about. Whatever you have survived in silence, watched your teen suffer through, brought home from the line of duty, or buried so deep it feels forgotten, I can handle it.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with specialized training in trauma and complex presentations. My approach is warm and collaborative, but I will not tiptoe around hard things. I use tools such as EMDR, Flash Technique, and parts work informed by Internal Family Systems to help people understand what is happening beneath the surface and actually work through it.
My faith is a big part of who I am, and I do not believe faith and mental health have to be at odds. I believe God cares about the whole person, including the parts of us that hurt, struggle, and need help. For clients who want their faith to be part of therapy, I am comfortable incorporating Scripture, prayer, and Biblical principles into our work. That does not mean putting a Bible verse over a wound and calling it healed. Sometimes faith means being honest about what hurts, asking for help, and allowing God to meet us in the middle of it.
The Scriptures that most shape the way I approach my work are Psalm 23 and 2 Corinthians 4:8–9. They remind me that we are not meant to carry everything alone, that God is present in suffering, and that there is hope even when we cannot see what comes next.
You do not have to have the right words. You do not have to make your story easier to hear. You can bring the hard stuff with you. We will start there.
