Hi! My name is Evelyn Steets. I’m an LCSW and I practice in the state of Tennessee. I am also a yoga therapist (no connection to the Hindu religion) and a pastoral counselor. I have come to understand over the years that trauma is not just in the mind, but also buried in the body. Often clients would prefer to stay in the mind because it feels safer, but when we access the body through stretching and breathwork we can see some profound changes.
Isaiah 61:1-3 is a stand out scripture for the healing I believe God desires to bring to people. It reads in the Life Application Bible as follows: “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
I desire to be a vessel used by the Lord to pay forward the healing He has brought into my life. I have recovered from my own trauma, and recently recovered from a cancer diagnosis. There is hope to be found in Jesus – in this life and the one to come. Blessings!
