Emily King
Licensed Professional Counselor
About
Personally, I believe that God used counseling to change my life. It helped me to understand and to wake up to a lot of things in my life that I needed to see and understand. A few years later, I felt a spiritual calling to become a professional counselor.
I believe that Jesus Christ was the greatest Counselor who ever lived. He not only loved people where they were, but He used perfect, thought-provoking questions to guide them to the answers they needed. I try to emulate Christ’s method of counseling, by asking Him to help me love my clients unconditionally, and by asking for His guidance and wisdom on what they need to hear and experience.
With my client’s permission, we begin and end each session with prayer. We begin the session with prayer, asking for the Holy Spirit to lead and to guide us. We end the session in prayer, as our response to what He is doing, offering a prayer of blessing or of challenge for the client. Throughout the sessions, I use the Bible and Christian resources to offer hope and healing, not to shame or condemn. I also incorporate Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, to evaluate truth and lies in our thinking. I believe that this method of counseling is Biblical.
Ultimately, I want to always provide my clients with a safe non-judgmental place to question, to cry, to yell, or whatever they need to do. I aim to love them unconditionally (in Christ) and hope that love becomes a source of healing in their lives. We are all broken, and we all need His love and healing.
