The foundation of my faith and my counseling work is found in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, where Paul speaks of the God of all comfort who comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort others with the same comfort we ourselves have received. This verse is not just a theological framework for me — it is the story of my life.

I have met God over and over again in my tears. Tears from an anguish in a life that has not always looked the way I expected. Tears from deep repentance of my own pride and a desperate desire to wrestle for control. Tears from a devastating diagnosis. Tears from loss. And in every one of those moments, He met me there. He carried me through. Over and over and over again.

It is because of the suffering and sorrow I have walked through that I am able to sit with others as they walk through their own stories. I do not come to the counseling room with only a head full of book knowledge. I come as someone who has been held by God in the darkest places, which means I can hold hope for my clients that He will meet them there too, and that He will move on their behalf.

In my counseling work, faith looks different for every client and I follow their lead. For some it is explicitly woven into our sessions through prayer and scripture. For others it is the quiet foundation from which I see them — as someone uniquely and wonderfully made, worthy of dignity, care, and the fullest possible healing. What never changes is the conviction that true healing touches every part of a person: mind, body, emotions, and soul.
