I grew up in a Southern Baptist home, got baptized when I was 12, but did not know Jesus. It was not until July 19th of 1973 after living a sex, drugs, and rock’n’roll lifestyle that I had a pretty dramatic conversion to Christ. Since then I have been walking with the Lord for 53 years. 2 years after my conversion I started at Liberty Baptist College, graduated from there having taken a pastoral ministry and counseling program. Afterwards I graduated from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983 and took a church plant team to NYC and planted a church that lasted for 5 years. I had to step down from ministry at that time due to sex and porn addiction. My wife and children then spent six years in a rollercoaster recovery due to no effective programs being available. That being said, we found a ton of grace through an Evangelical Mennonite church called Cornerstone where we truly began to heal. After moving to North Carolina in 1996 and spending more time trying to get our lives stabilized, in 2003 that began to happen in a more consistent way. Finally, in 2008 January, I count as my sobriety date and began to do volunteer men’s sex addiction recovery groups.
Then, fast forwarding 3 years toward the end of 2011, I applied to Richmont Graduate University to eventually complete a MAMFT program with a certificate in Christian Sex Therapy. It was during this time of working through the program that I was exposed to attachment theory, EFT, and spiritual formation. That led to my incorporating all of my education, ministry experience, and personal recovery into how I approach therapy and now Christian coaching. During the course of any of my sessions, based upon the client, their faith orientation or lack thereof, their issues (sex addiction, partner betrayal, affair recovery, sexual dysfunction, relationship conflict) I may infuse/intermingle our session with relevant Biblical truth in layman’s language and images, delve into family of origin attachment wounding issues, practice somatic psychotherapy to help a partner calm and process her betrayal trauma, emotionally engage, bond, and track with a couple seeking to create bonding moments to heal disconnection and pursue/withdraw issues, or help a faltering priest/pastor begin to move out of his shame to heal from his sex/porn addiction and spousal disconnect.
I have also gone one step further to integrate all of this. It is included in my first published book, A Journey of Personal and Relational Transformation: Experiencing the connection and community of Philippians. It is a workbook integration of all of the above – a grammatical-exegetical journey through Paul’s letter to the Philippians, but from an experiential lens, seeking to have participants experience the truths from community, accountability, worship, personal application, attachment assessing, self-reflecting, body work, and more. There are helpful/resourceful appendices that help multiply ministry by providing group facilitator direction. Check it out: https://youtu.be/jStyTyEAV4o .
In addition since the early part of August 2026 I have completed the Human Flourishing Coaching courses (24hrs) and am looking forward to transition into doing online coaching from that framework, while having the aforementioned background. I do plan to phase out the heavier side of my practice near the end of the year. So, I may be taking a limited number of therapy clients, but will be building my coaching caseload primarily. Then, sometime in the next year I will transition out of doing therapy altogether and do coaching only, on the Human Flourishing Coaching side of the equation.
My life’s verse is John 17:3 – This is life eternal to know you the only true God and to know his Son Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I love John’s intimate language all throughout his gospel and in his first letter … we have seen, heard, touched, and experienced the Word of God and we desire that you may share our joy!! Wow, does that not floor you with amazement that God loves you that much?!!
