I met Jesus in 1989 at a Young Life camp in Colorado. I was shocked by the story of the cross and simply told the Lord that if he could give his life for me than I could live my life for Him. Eventually, I served on staff with YL for over 25 years. In that time, I realized so many people in ministry were in a place where they had no freedom to fail, fall, or struggle in general. I was compelled to pursue my counseling degree to help give folks a safe place to wrestle with the things of life. Eventually, I retired and began my doctorate studies. The more I learn about our brains and bodies, the more convinced I am of the reality of God and his love for us. He so carefully and intricately created us with details beyond what we can ever understand! There are so many truths in the scriptures about God’s healing- from Psalm 18 where it talks about God reaching down from on high and rescuing us from the pit, bringing us into a spacious place because he delights in us, to Psalm 103 about his healing, and the reminder in Hebrews 6 that the hope we have in Christ in an anchor for our souls. Having an anchor matters most in the storms- it is normal for us to face struggle, everyone does. I love the opportunity to sit with people and walk with them in these storms and help them access the healing that God offers.
