Isaiah 43:18-19 have been two of the most influential verses for me personally. The Lord has used these particular verses through many seasons of my life to reveal that even though there are seasons in which we feel as if we are wandering in the wilderness, He is making a way and He is doing a new thing within us.

Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” There are times that we remember past lies that have been spoken over us, but this verse is a reminder that those words no longer have to have power over you because God is doing a new thing and He is making a way for healing to begin.

These verses have greatly influenced me personally as I am someone who struggled with perfectionism and feeling as if I need to strive to earn affection, and to prove my worth through achievements. The enemy told me my worth was tied to my performance, until God showed me otherwise and set me free from those chains. I want my clients to experience that same freedom. My hope is that my clients find their purpose and identity in who God says that they are, rather than how others have made them feel or what others have made them believe about themselves. The image I always picture is flowers growing while trying to be overtaken by weeds. The weeds are lies or faulty beliefs. The process of counseling is us working together to pull up the weeds and replace them with God’s Truth so that you can continue to bloom where He has planted you.
