I was saved by Jesus at thirty-six years old and was instantly set free from an addiction to pornography. I remained free for many years, but I never addressed the wounds and unresolved issues from my childhood. Over time, those unhealed places kept me from experiencing true intimacy with myself, with God, and with the people I loved.

As past trauma began to surface, I slowly drifted away from God and started running from the pain. After thirteen years of sobriety, I returned to the false worship and idolatry of pornography. That fall left me angry, hardened, and more deeply enslaved than before.

Second Peter 2:20 says, “And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before.”

But God did not give up on me.

The road back was difficult. I finally had to face the wounds of my childhood, establish a life of true worship, and develop discipline in every area of my life. God showed me where I had failed before, not only so I could find freedom again, but so I could help other men find freedom and learn how to live in a way that protects it.

The flesh never gets saved; it must be confronted daily. We must take up the sword every day, remain watchful, and live as 4th Watch Warriors.

Galatians 5:1 “For freedom, Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery.”
