Throughout my journey, I have encountered remarkable opportunities, forged meaningful relationships, and acquired treasured possessions. Yet, I often struggled to sustain them. As I embraced my innate talents and learned to harness them, I began to achieve profound accomplishments. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to maintain my momentum, which plunged me into a cycle of depression and diminished confidence. This darkness ultimately led to a decade-long battle with addiction.
The harsh reality of drug addiction often spirals into crime and incarceration. However, during my time behind bars, I discovered a beacon of hope through a transformative faith-based program. Immersing myself in the living Word of God ignited a healing process in my life, illuminating the path to true deliverance. I came to realize that my struggles were rooted in my reliance on my own understanding, power, strength, and might. I lacked the wisdom, experience, and insight from the God who bestowed these gifts upon me.
This revelation revealed that my talents were not merely for my benefit but were entrusted to me for His divine will, purpose, and the greater good of His kingdom. Embracing this truth has empowered me to move forward with renewed strength and purpose.
The way of thinking that once guided the seeker’s mind must undergo a transformation. Scriptures refer to this as “the renewing of the mind.” In the book of Romans, Paul states, “And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2, KJV).
The term “conformed,” as defined in Greek, means “to conform oneself to another’s pattern” (Bible Study Tools). Followers of Jesus should not conform to the mindset and behaviors of this world. Instead, they should follow the mindset and behaviors of Jesus. The term “transformed,” as defined in Greek, means “to change into another form, to transform, to transfigure” (Bible Study Tools).
For the renewed mind to operate effectively in its measure of faith, it must humble itself under God’s instruction and authority. As stated in 1 Peter 5:6 (KJV), “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” Additionally, Habakkuk 2:4 (NIV) notes, “See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright—but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness.” The renewed mind should trust no other authority but God’s. It is built on the principles of Christ, transformed by faith, and applies its functions through hope.
Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) explains, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Through faith, we obey His commandments, and Believers must put these principles into action. As stated in James 2:26 (KJV), “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
My understanding of both secular and faith-based perspectives on mindset change and internal growth is crucial to transformation. This involves examining how the internal growth process is initiated within the mind, manifesting through faith and the power of the Holy Spirit. By engaging in this renewal, the seeker of Divine healing and insights can cultivate a mindset aligned with Christ. Ultimately, mindset change and internal growth are most effective when viewed through the lens of faith; the renewal of both mind and spirit leads to enduring and transformative change.
