My faith is not a layer I add to counseling — it is the lens through which I understand people, suffering, and the possibility of real change. I came to clinical work through pastoral ministry, and the two have never fully separated in me. My doctoral and seminary training sit alongside my clinical license because I believe the cure of souls and the treatment of the mind were never meant to be divided disciplines. Every person who walks through our doors — regardless of how disordered their circumstances or behavior have become — carries the inherent dignity of an image-bearer of God. That conviction shapes how I diagnose, how I treat, and how I hope.

The verse that most shapes my clinical orientation is Romans 12:2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That text is, at its core, a theology of change. People are not fixed. Patterns formed in trauma, in shame, in sin — even patterns as entrenched as a chronic delusion or a years-long behavioral compulsion — can be reordered. My doctoral research on metacognitive treatment for chronic schizophrenia, my clinical work in EMDR, and my oversight of a residential treatment program for adolescent young men carrying deep behavioral and sexual brokenness all rest on the same conviction: healing is not merely symptom management. It is the restoration of a person’s capacity to function as they were created to function.

I lead Caliber Counseling and Training and a residential treatment program for adolescent young men, in addition to seeing clients directly, and I am the father of nine children of my own — which is to say, I have spent a long time watching what genuine transformation looks like up close, in people I love, under real pressure. I don’t bring clients false comfort or technique without conviction. I bring the conviction that every person sitting across from me — whatever brought them in — is worth the work, because God has already judged them worth dying for.
