At 23 years old, I realized that I had been searching for purpose, meaning, love and healing in all of the wrong places. What the world had told me would fill me with happiness only led to me feeling more and more empty. That is, until by the power of the Holy Spirit led me to  begin following Jesus. In a moment of crisis and suffering I called out to Jesus for rescue and He was faithful to answer. From that day on my life has never been the same.

Jesus changed my heart and I very quickly began serving the Lord in family and youth ministry. While working in vocational youth ministry I realized that though Jesus had saved me, my spiritual maturity and faith was being impacted by my emotional immaturity and woundedness. I sought out a Christian Counselor and was able to experience first hand how the Lord uses members of His body in the form of Christian Counselors to exhort, speak truth, comfort, challenge, reveal, and bear witness.

My favorite passage of scripture that guides my work in counseling is Isaiah 61. This passage sets the foundation of my counseling work which is that Jesus Christ the Messiah came and died so that our broken hearts could be bound up, so that those mourning could be comforted, so that those that are in captivity could be freed, so that the places long devastated could be restored, so that our shame could be replaced with a double portion, and so that our disgrace could be replaced with an inheritance. God is the Great Counselor and the one who heals, brings growth, and fulfills all of the promises found in Isaiah 61. In counseling, both counselor and client are invited to join him in that process.
