My road to becoming a therapist…
I have always been a story-teller. Whether it was making up stories for my Power Rangers when
I was in pull-ups or being inspired by the biblical stories of David, Noah, and Moses, I have
always believed that life is one long journey full of ups, downs, mountains, valleys, and even
breakthroughs.
So, what’s my story? I had my own breakthrough after surviving a car-accident that led to the
amputation of my left leg. I was blessed with a supportive family and a community of faith that
enabled me to turn my pain into purpose.
After learning to walk again at 20 years old, I realized that my purpose in this world was to help
people find hope and healing when it seems like those things are non-existent. I attended Bible school after I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and worked in college ministry for four years. Later, the 2020 pandemic opened my eyes to the mental health needs of my friends, the young men I disciplined, my relatives, and the generation at large.
Now, I’m in the last year of my master’s program at Liberty University in Clinical Mental Health
Counseling to become a licensed professional counselor. My sole desire is to instill hope, a few
laughs, a whole lot of care into every client I come into contact with.
As a counselor, I am passionate about working with specific populations.
After four years of working with college and high school students in ministry, I am well aware of
the issues these precious individuals face at school, at home, from peers, and from society.
Additionally, I became a certified sexual addiction coach with the view to specifically help
people, especially young men, break the shackles of addictions they have longed to overcome.
Being a Black person, I also would like to be a familiar face to clients who look and talk like me.
I know it’s not many of us in the therapy world, but I’m here and I’m willing to lend an ear to hear
your story.
Here are some “non-therapy” things about me…
The people that live in my heart would be my wife Jackie and my baby boy Josiah.
The passions of my heart consist of movies (which is anything from the Marvel Universe to
Charlie Chaplin movies), traveling (I’ll hop on a plane to Italy right now), and cooking (Salmon,
Pastas, and Cheesecake are some of my staples).
Some other fun facts would be that I have one of the largest families in Texas since both of my
grandmothers were 1 of 12 children, I’ve met Beyoncé 3 times in my life, and that I love the
beach so much, I decided to get married in Cancun.
