Personally, faith in the person and work of Jesus underlies everything that I am and all that I do. It is also the reason that I practice therapy within an existential framework. Professionally, I practice a client centered therapy within an existential framework. Existential practice focuses on the client and on what they believe and why they believe it, and on how those beliefs give meaning to their lives. In other words, how does the client’s beliefs about themselves and about God influence the way that they live? It also focuses on important issues related to living as a human in a broken world, such as freedom, responsibility, authenticity, honesty, grief, death, illness, and loss. When exploring these issues, it is important to understand how the client views themselves in the world and to also understand how they see themselves as related to God and spirituality. I specialize in exploring these issues with clients so that they can better understand what they believe and why they believe it in order to continue their spiritual growth journey. I also see people for religious and spiritual trauma helping them to separate the works of man and God in order to heal from hurt and find hope. I am motivated by Jesus’ words to love God and love my neighbor (Matt 22:37-39) and am comforted by the fact that any good works that I do were prepared beforehand that I should walk in them (Eph 2:8-10).
