My Personal Testimony and How Faith Shapes My Counseling Approach

Greetings, I am Dr. Lakesha Dean, and it is by the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that I stand as a vessel to serve others in the ministry of Christian counseling. My personal testimony is deeply rooted in God’s redemptive power. I was not born perfect or without trials; rather, like many, I walked through seasons of brokenness, betrayal, loss, and personal struggle. Yet, it was in those valleys that I came to know the steadfast love and healing power of the Lord. Psalm 34:18 has been a cornerstone in my journey: “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” This verse reminds me that God meets us in our pain, binding up the wounds we cannot mend on our own.

Throughout my life, Scripture has been my anchor. Proverbs 3:5-6 guides not only my personal walk but also my professional practice: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” In my counseling sessions, this passage reminds me to rely not solely on human wisdom or psychological theory, but on the Holy Spirit’s leading, seeking His discernment for each unique individual who comes through my door.

I incorporate biblical teachings into therapy by grounding every session in prayer, seeking God’s presence, and offering Scripture-based encouragement alongside evidence-based techniques. Whether working through grief, trauma, anxiety, or relational issues, I help clients align their hearts and minds with God’s truth. Romans 12:2 shapes this process: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Ultimately, my approach is not just to offer temporary relief, but to walk alongside clients as they experience true transformation in Christ, healing that touches not just the mind, but the soul. It is my joy and honor to help others walk closer with the Lord as they discover His peace, purpose, and power in their lives.
