My name is Mary Virginia Benton Prescott. I graduated with my Master Degree in Professional Counseling in 2016 from Grand Canyon University. I am also a Certified Life Coach, and a Board Certified Christian Counselor. I also hold a post masters of science in counseling addiction certification and a post masters of science in counseling in trauma. Upon graduating I was employed for several years as a counselor, then I entered into the school system to become a school based therapist.
During my career as a counselor, I have gained the necessary job-related skills to help others in an empathic way by using the counseling skills of active listening, reflective feedback, and unconditional positive regard. I have always strived to remain unbiased in my ethical scope of practice. I have recently acquired my Certification in Christian Counseling for which I feel is a further calling for me as I assist clients as they navigate faithfully along life’s path. My background in counseling has evolved in a wide variety of settings, demographics, and populations. As a school based mental health therapist, I have worked with adolescents who have suffered from many ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences) which have affected their overall mental, physical, and emotional health. I have enjoyed my career helping others and have found it very rewarding. As a Board Certified Christian Counselor, I feel that I can further help others as they navigate their spiritual struggles. Faith is an integral part of the mental health and well being of humans
I am excited to be a part of the helping experience. Helping people is my calling. Being more seasoned and experienced in different professional populations has really helped me to gain more wisdom in the past few years. I am at a point in my life where people matter, mental health matters, and faith matters more than anything. How we navigate those areas of our lives that we all struggle with, is as important as how we learn about ourselves, and in turn learn to grow from within. I am here to help you on your journey.
My areas of specialty include working with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, trauma, life transitions, stress, and emotional challenges related to difficult life experiences. With additional post-master’s training in addiction and trauma counseling, I understand how past experiences and adverse childhood events (ACEs) can influence a person’s thoughts, behaviors, and overall well-being. Together, we work toward healing, resilience, and healthier coping strategies.
I also specialize in supporting adolescents and young adults who may be facing emotional, behavioral, or family challenges. My experience as a school-based therapist has given me valuable insight into the unique pressures young people face today, including academic stress, social challenges, and the impact of trauma.
As a Board Certified Christian Counselor, I offer faith-integrated counseling for those who desire to include their spiritual beliefs as part of the healing process. I believe that faith can be a powerful source of hope, strength, and guidance when navigating life’s difficulties. For clients who wish, we can explore biblical principles, spiritual growth, and how faith can support emotional healing and personal transformation.
My approach to counseling is rooted in empathy, active listening, reflective feedback, and unconditional positive regard. I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment where individuals feel heard, respected, and supported.
Whether you are seeking guidance through a difficult season, working to overcome past trauma, strengthening your faith, or simply looking for personal growth, I am here to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing and wholeness.
Life can present challenges that sometimes feel overwhelming, confusing, or isolating. You may be carrying emotional pain, navigating difficult life transitions, struggling with past experiences, or searching for deeper meaning and peace. In those moments, it can be helpful to have someone walk alongside you—someone who will truly listen, understand, and support you without judgment.
My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate, and supportive space where you can openly share your experiences and feelings. I believe that every person has value, purpose, and the capacity for growth and healing. Through empathy, understanding, and guidance, we can work together to help you gain clarity, develop healthy coping strategies, and strengthen both your emotional well-being and, if you choose, your spiritual foundation.
Seeking help is a courageous step, and you do not have to face life’s challenges alone. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, searching for healing from past experiences, or simply wanting to grow and move forward with greater confidence and peace, support is available.
If you feel ready to begin this journey, I would be honored to walk alongside you and support you as you take the next step toward healing, growth, and hope.
