In my counseling work, I integrate Scripture and clinical insight as complementary sources of wisdom and healing. Together, they offer both spiritual grounding and practical direction for growth. A central theme in this process is the renewal of the mind, as described in Romans 12:2: “Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

I am Juliano Nunes. I was born and raised in Belo Horizonte — a vibrant city whose name means “beautiful horizon.” It was there, at a Presbyterian church at the foot of one of its hills, that I first encountered the Word of God and developed a deep sense of spiritual belonging. At sixteen, I publicly professed my faith in Jesus Christ, a moment that continues to shape my life and work today.

In my early twenties, I continued growing spiritually through a Baptist church, where meaningful experiences deepened my understanding of God’s presence. Today, I am grateful to be part of Church Eleven32 in Allen, a community that emphasizes both biblical truth and a living relationship with God.

My personal journey has not been without struggle. As I transitioned into adulthood, I experienced significant stress, anxiety, and depression. During that time, my faith was deeply tested, yet it also became my anchor. I often resonated with Psalm 42:5: “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God…” Psalm 23:4 brought comfort in my darkest moments: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me…” And when healing came, I experienced the joy expressed in Psalm 126:1–3:
“The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.”

Through these experiences, I came to understand a powerful truth reflected in 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 — that the comfort we receive from God equips us to comfort others. This realization became foundational to my call as a counselor.

This principle closely aligns psychological concepts such as cognitive restructuring and neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to form new patterns over time. Drawing on insights from authors like Caroline Leaf and Alan Weissenbacher, I help clients understand how repeated thoughts and behaviors can create strong internal patterns — and how those patterns can be reshaped through intentional change.

In practical terms, this means helping clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, regulate emotions, and develop healthier responses. Scripture also provides guidance for emotional life — for example, Ephesians 4:26 reminds us:
“Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your wrath.”
This encourages awareness, regulation, and timely processing of emotions rather than suppression or escalation.

At the heart of my work is the belief that therapy is both relational and transformative. As Tim Clinton writes:
“Every session is more than advice or strategy. It is a chance to walk with someone as they rediscover the God who heals and restores.”

Before entering the mental health field, I practiced law in Brazil. Even then, I found myself drawn to understanding people beyond their legal circumstances — an inclination that others noticed, sometimes referring to me as a “psychologist lawyer.” Looking back, I see that season as preparation for the work I do today.

My goal in counseling is to provide a space where clients can explore their struggles with honesty, develop insight, and move toward healing. For those who desire it, this journey can also include reconnecting with their faith and experiencing the restoration that comes through both sound therapeutic practice and a renewed relationship with God.
