Hi, welcome to my page. First, I’ll start with some of the practicals of what you can expect by working with me. We’re going explore the stressors in life that have brought you here. For those who desire their Christian faith to be integrated(I imagine that is why you are on this website), we will explore your faith background and how the stress or problems going on relates to your walk with the Lord. We’re going to develop some tangible, specific goals to work toward. We’ll start each session with a check-in to see how you’re doing. We’ll review homework, which we will come up with together. We’ll spend most of each session exploring an issue together, talking it out. I’ll strive to connect with you, to empathize, and understand the issue with you, and guide you in working through how you think and feel about what is going on. I may teach you a psychological concept, reference a Scripture passage or concept from the Bible, introduce a tool that’s relevant to what we’re working on, or guide you in an activity, such as mindfulness, relaxation, or cognitive skills. Sometimes we may be focused on figuring out practical, tangible solutions for your life. Other times we may doing a deep dive into the past, exploring past traumas, unresolved grief, or family-of-origins issues.

For couples, I facilitate developing mutual goals, understanding issues from each perspective, figuring out problems in communication that disrupt peaceful resolutions, and provide tools for having a healthier relationship. Throughout this process we’ll keep an eye on our goals, and work towards a successful end of treatment. I welcome feedback along the way.

Concerning my faith, I have gone through various seasons in my life, at times distant, and at times close to the Lord.  I studied Scripture and Christian apologetics intensely as a hobby for a couple of years, and nearly pursued seminary, but God led me into counseling instead. Jesus is the wonderful counselor. I hold I high view of Scripture as the Word of God. My approach towards integration of faith and Scripture is flexible, I weave it into sessions when it makes sense, and follow my clients lead, taking a gentle approach, and usually some humor as well.

Counseling, at times, can be hard, serious, painful work for the client, and times light, humorous, even fun.  I consider my approach to counseling collaborative, at times I will take the lead, and I typically have an idea of where we need to go, but I often follow my clients, and encourage them to take the lead in directing our work.  I aim for my therapy approach to be grounded in truth, such as Scripture, in science, and biological realities and facts.  I have a deep compassion for Christians struggling with sin, struggling with difficult identity or sexuality issues, with porn addictions or paraphilias, obsessions like OCD or religious scrupulosity, and other difficulties that can be so hard to navigate while trying to walk with Jesus.  If this resonates with you.
