I received my born-again experienced at the tender age of 9, in my grandmother’s church in Demopolis, AL.  After a week’s long revival I was baptized in water, and received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit at the same time.   Since that time I have with the help, guidance, and leading of the Holy Spirit been a faithful believer, although at times I have stumbled, but never fallen thanks to the prays of the saints in my life, and the faithfulness, love, mercy, and grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  I have been a faithful, and active member of the church, and christian community for over fifty years.  I graduated from Southeastern University, (Assemblies of God), in Lakeland, FL, with a BA in Biblical Studies, and Secondary Education.  I was called into the ministry over thirty years ago, and have preached, taught Bible study, and worked as a mental health therapist in various churches.  My husband and I co-pastored an Assemblies of God church in Hanover, MD for the past twenty years.

There are four primary scriptures that inform my work as a counselor, first, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, which I believe speaks to our role as counselors to comfort others as we ourselves have been comforted, offering encouragement, and support.  The second scripture is 2 Timothy 1:7, which reminds us that God gives us power, love, and a sound mind, and that He sends people our way who can help us in our distresses when we find ourselves lacking in any of those areas.   The third scripture is James 1:5, that tells us to ask God for help when we lack knowledge, and wisdom about anything.  As counselors we definitely don’t know everything, and must depend on God for wisdom, insight, and discernment to help, and support His people according to His will.   The fourth scripture is Galatians 6:2, which tells us we are to carry one another’s burdens, with this scripture in mind, I become an ally of the person I am trying to help, which helps build trust, connection, and understanding.   I keep all of these scriptures in mind as I do the work of a Christian counselor which all helps to form a bond that fosters safety, hope, and openness in the counseling environment.
