In life, every person will experience struggle, challenges, and hardship.  These are the experiences that cause us to grow, define purpose, and become stronger individuals.  However, there are times when these experiences may become overwhelming, out of balance, and cause us harm.  How do we as Christians navigate these times?  First, we pray.  Then, we find the resources of help and hope that God has afforded us.  For some, family and friends provide enough support to help us get to a better place.  There are times, though, when professional help is needed.  Finding a therapist with values and a belief system that aligns with your own becomes critical because unlike seeking the help of a medical doctor, we do not see you for 10-15 minutes and send you on your way.  Our support takes time, a healthy therapeutic relationship, and a place where being vulnerable and open is comfortable and safe, not scary.

It will be my pleasure to provide this space for you.  In our work together, I will utilize many of the proven therapeutic modalities that will help me to serve you to the best of my ability.  However, I have found three models that work well to help clients reach set goals.  The first is cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).  This model will help to challenge unhealthy thought patterns due to past trauma, toxic or unhealthy relationships, and conditions/disorders.  Romans 12:2 reads, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”  By gaining a new way of thinking, challenges can be overcome.  The second counseling model I find to be very helpful is Rogerian therapy, also called person-centered therapy.  Rogers emphasizes that by using authenticity, non-judgmentalism, empathy, and unconditional positive regard clients are able to forge their path to healing and thrive.  This model places you in the driver’s seat, allowing you to process thoughts and concerns without judgement.  Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  This model of therapy expresses this same sentiment.  Come as you are, authentically. Jesus says that you will “find,” which means you have to search for (or process) rest for your soul, or “Nephesh,”- your entire being!  My goal is to provide holistic counsel and to help you find God’s path to healing that He has prepared just for you.

Finally, the last therapeutic approach that I generally use is Adlerian therapy.  The main benefit of this model is that it explores how you can turn inferiority to superiority, find belonging and community, and become goal oriented.  Your past and present challenges can eventually become the very tools that propel you to become the best YOU that you are meant to be.  Romans 8:37 tells us, “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” Christ lets us know that regardless of what you have or are going through, you can not only survive it, but can have overwhelming victory!

You are not alone!  You matter.  Let’s get you started on your path to victory!  I am ready when you are.
