I grew up in a Christian home but came to Christ as an adult at age 25. I taught at a Christian school for three years and then felt God calling me to graduate school to become a Christian psychologist. I attended a Christian university and learned to integrate my faith with doing counseling.
1Timothy 4:7, “Train yourself to be godly” guides me in counseling. I try to guide the people I counsel to use their faith and spiritual disciplines(prayer, scriptures, worship, etc.) in their healing journey. I also like to give homework so that people can be working on goals between sessions. I frequently give handouts with scriptures, which incorporates the power of the Spirit. Much of counseling is helping people replace fears, anxiety, and depression with godly thinking.
